When is Solemnity of Mary?
Every year on January 1.
What is Solemnity of Mary?
The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, is celebrated by the Catholic Church on January 1, the octave, or eighth day, of Christmas. It honours Mary's role as the mother of Jesus, a title, Theotokos, affirmed by the Council of Ephesus in 431, and in its current form dates from the calendar reforms of 1969. In many countries it is a holy day of obligation, and since 1968 the Catholic Church has also observed it as the World Day of Peace.
