Today
Cuba Revolution Day

When is Cuba Revolution Day?

Every year on January 1.

What is Cuba Revolution Day?

Cuba marks January 1 as both New Year's Day and the Triumph of the Revolution, the day in 1959 when the dictator Fulgencio Batista fled the country. Rebel columns under Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos entered Havana in the following days, and Fidel Castro arrived in the capital on January 8 after a victory march across the island. The anniversary is a national holiday, marked with official ceremonies, speeches and family celebrations combining the revolution and the new year.
