What is Global Family Day?
Global Family Day on January 1 grew out of the UN's call for One Day in Peace at the start of the new millennium, and invites people to begin the year with a day of peace and togetherness. Its idea is that peace starts at home: families, neighbours and communities sharing a meal, forgiving old quarrels and reaching out across divides. People mark it by gathering with relatives, ringing bells, sharing food with neighbours and making a resolution to treat others with kindness.
