Mummers Parade

When is Mummers Parade?

Every year on January 1.

What is Mummers Parade?

The Philadelphia Mummers Parade takes place every New Year's Day and is one of the oldest folk parades in the United States, held as a city-sanctioned event since 1901. Its roots lie in European mumming traditions brought by immigrants, in which masked revellers went door to door at the turn of the year. Thousands of members of comic brigades, fancy brigades and string bands march in sequins, feathers and huge costumes, playing banjos and saxophones and performing choreographed routines.
