Sudan Independence Day
A country's first sunrise.

When is Sudan Independence Day?
Every year on January 1.
What is Sudan Independence Day?
Sudan's Independence Day on January 1 marks 1956, when the country ended joint British and Egyptian rule, known as the Anglo-Egyptian Condominium, which had lasted since 1899. On the morning of independence, Prime Minister Ismail al-Azhari raised the new flag over the palace in Khartoum, and Sudan became the largest country in Africa at the time. The anniversary is a national holiday, observed with official ceremonies and gatherings in Sudan and among Sudanese communities abroad.
