New Year
New year, Swiss alpine spirit.

When is New Year?
Every year on January 1.
What is New Year?
New Year in Switzerland begins with fireworks over Lake Zurich and Lake Geneva and church bells ringing in the year at midnight. In Appenzell Ausserrhoden, the Silvesterchläuse, men in enormous headdresses and costumes of bark, moss or bells, go from farm to farm yodelling to wish neighbours a good year, both on December 31 and on January 13, New Year by the old Julian calendar. In many cantons January 2, Berchtoldstag, is also a holiday, spent visiting family and playing traditional games.
