International Day of Acceptance

When is International Day of Acceptance?

Every year on January 20.

What is International Day of Acceptance?

The International Day of Acceptance on January 20 was started in 2010 by Stevie Hopkins and the organisation 3E Love, in memory of his sister Annie Hopkins, a disability rights advocate who died on that date in 2009. Annie created the wheelchair heart symbol, a heart with a wheelchair figure inside, to show that disability is part of life and nothing to hide. The day invites people with disabilities to embrace who they are and asks everyone else to see the person, not the disability, and to remove barriers.
