Mariachi Day
Sounds of Mexico, soul of a nation.

When is Mariachi Day?
Every year on January 21.
What is Mariachi Day?
Mariachi Day celebrates the Mexican ensemble of violins, trumpets, guitars, the deep guitarrón and the high-pitched vihuela, whose musicians wear the traditional charro suit. Mariachi grew from rural string music in western Mexico, especially Jalisco, and became a symbol of Mexican identity in the 20th century through radio and film. UNESCO added it to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011, and the day is marked with performances in plazas, restaurants and concert halls.
