When is Feast of Candelaria?
Every year on February 2.
What is Feast of Candelaria?
The Feast of Candelaria on February 2 is the Catholic feast of Candlemas, the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, when candles are blessed in churches as a sign of Christ as the light of the world. In the Canary Islands it honours the Virgin of Candelaria, the islands' patron saint, whose image according to tradition was found by Guanche shepherds on a beach in Tenerife before the Spanish conquest, and pilgrims gather at her basilica in the town of Candelaria. In Puno, Peru, the feast becomes a huge festival of music and costumed dance listed by UNESCO, and in Mexico families share tamales, paid for by whoever found the figure of the Christ Child in the Three Kings cake on January 6.
