African Heritage & Health Week
Taste the heritage, embrace the health.

When is African Heritage & Health Week?
From February 1 to February 7.
What is African Heritage & Health Week?
African Heritage and Health Week is held in the first week of February, at the start of Black History Month, by Oldways, a US nonprofit that promotes traditional diets. It celebrates the cooking traditions of Africa and the African diaspora in the Caribbean, South America and the American South, which rest on greens, beans, yams, okra, rice, peanuts and spices. Since diet-related illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes weigh heavily on many African American communities, the week shares recipes, cooking demonstrations and classes that bring these healthy heritage foods back to the table.
