Fatherland Defenders Day
Strength in service.
When is Fatherland Defenders Day?
Every year on February 23.
What is Fatherland Defenders Day?
Fatherland Defenders Day, observed in Belarus on February 23, traces back to the 1918 battles of Pskov and Narva in which the Red Army first stopped the German advance after World War I. Renamed Day of Fatherland Defenders and the Armed Forces of Belarus in 1998 by President Lukashenko, the holiday honors both uniformed service members and civilians whose work keeps the country safe, including teachers, doctors, and farmers.
