Chinese Language Day

When is Chinese Language Day?

Every year on April 20.

What is Chinese Language Day?

Chinese Language Day, observed on April 20 and established by the United Nations in 2010, celebrates Cangjie (the legendary historian credited with inventing Chinese characters) and the linguistic diversity that Mandarin, Cantonese, and the many other Chinese languages bring to the world. The day promotes multilingualism, supports learning of the world's most-spoken first language, and celebrates Chinese as one of the UN's six official languages.
