Walk to Work Day

When is Walk to Work Day?

Every year on April 1.

What is Walk to Work Day?

Walk to Work Day, observed each April 1, is the gentle challenge to swap the commute behind the wheel for a commute on foot. Created in 2004 by Prevention Magazine and quickly picked up by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the day builds on a simple public-health insight: brisk walking counts toward the WHO's 150-minutes-a-week target, and replacing even one car trip a day with footsteps cuts carbon emissions, eases traffic and clears the morning fog from the head. The day isn't for the rare few who live next door to the office — remote workers can take a brisk pre-shift loop, and long-distance commuters can walk to the bus or train.
