Auschwitz Liberation Day
Never forget. Always remember.

When is Auschwitz Liberation Day?
Every year on January 27.
What is Auschwitz Liberation Day?
On January 27, 1945, soldiers of the Soviet Red Army entered Auschwitz, the largest of the Nazi concentration and extermination camps, in occupied Poland. Around 1.1 million people were murdered there, the great majority of them Jews, along with Poles, Roma, Soviet prisoners of war and others, and the soldiers found about 7,000 starving prisoners left behind. Each year survivors, leaders and visitors gather at the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial in Oświęcim to lay wreaths, light candles and remember the victims.
