Armenian Christmas
The first to believe. The first to celebrate.

When is Armenian Christmas?
Every year on January 6.
What is Armenian Christmas?
The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates Christmas on January 6, together with Theophany, the baptism of Jesus, keeping the early Christian custom of marking both feasts on one day. Armenia was the first country to adopt Christianity as its state religion, traditionally dated to 301, and the church holds to this ancient practice; in Jerusalem it is observed on January 19 under the Julian calendar. Families attend a candlelit service on Christmas Eve, share a meal of fish, rice and dried fruits, and attend the blessing of water on Christmas Day.
