World Silambam Day
Staff in hand, tradition in heart.

When is World Silambam Day?
Every year on November 22.
What is World Silambam Day?
World Silambam Day on November 22 celebrates silambam, a martial art from Tamil Nadu in southern India that is fought with a long bamboo staff. It is mentioned in classical Tamil literature, and practitioners combine fast spinning strikes, footwork patterns and defence in a style that looks almost like a dance. On the day, schools and clubs in India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and the Tamil diaspora hold demonstrations, workshops and competitions.
