When is Wikipedia Day?
Every year on January 15.
What is Wikipedia Day?
Wikipedia Day on January 15 marks the launch of Wikipedia in 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger, as a free encyclopedia that anyone could edit. It has grown into one of the most visited websites in the world, with more than 60 million articles in over 300 languages, written by volunteers and run by the nonprofit Wikimedia Foundation. Communities mark the day with edit-a-thons, meetups and campaigns to fill gaps in coverage, such as articles about women, local history and smaller languages.
How to celebrate
Mark the day with a poster made in Dayfeed — pick your favourite photo as the background, share it to your story or group chat, and set a reminder so you never miss it next year.
