What is International Day for Tolerance?
The International Day for Tolerance on November 16 marks UNESCO's adoption of the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance in 1995, the UN Year for Tolerance. A year later the UN General Assembly invited countries to observe the day every year. It promotes respect for the world's diversity of cultures, beliefs and ways of life, and UNESCO uses it to award a prize for work that builds tolerance and non-violence.
