Qatar National Day
The founding, remembered.
When is Qatar National Day?
Every year on December 18.
What is Qatar National Day?
Qatar National Day on December 18 commemorates 1878, when Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani succeeded his father and began uniting the peninsula's tribes into a single state. Celebrated as National Day since 2007, it honours Qatar's founder and the country's journey from a pearl-diving coast to a modern state. The Doha Corniche hosts a military parade, air shows and fireworks, and families visit the Darb Al Saai heritage festival with its traditional crafts, food and camel rides.
