What is World AIDS Day?
World AIDS Day on December 1 was first observed in 1988, making it the first global health day. It remembers the more than 40 million people who have died of AIDS-related illnesses and supports the tens of millions living with HIV today. People wear the red ribbon, introduced in 1991, and the day promotes HIV testing, treatment that lets people live long and healthy lives, and the fight against stigma.
