Perihelion Day
Closest to the sun.

When is Perihelion Day?
Every year on January 3.
What is Perihelion Day?
Perihelion Day falls around January 3, when Earth reaches the point in its slightly oval orbit closest to the Sun, about 147 million kilometres away. That is roughly 5 million kilometres closer than in early July, at aphelion. It surprises many people that the Northern Hemisphere's winter happens when Earth is nearest the Sun: the seasons come from the tilt of Earth's axis, not from our distance to the Sun.
