Kenya Jamhuri Day
Harambee! (Let's all pull together!)

When is Kenya Jamhuri Day?
Every year on December 12.
What is Kenya Jamhuri Day?
Jamhuri Day on December 12 is Kenya's most important national holiday, and its name means republic in Swahili. It marks two anniversaries on the same date: independence from Britain in 1963, and the country becoming a republic a year later, in 1964, with Jomo Kenyatta as its first president. Kenyans celebrate with the president's speech at a national stadium, military parades, traditional dance, family feasts of nyama choma and flags flying everywhere.
