Jólabókaflóð (Christmas Book Flood)
A book as a gift — the best Christmas tradition.

When is Jólabókaflóð (Christmas Book Flood)?
Every year on December 24.
What is Jólabókaflóð (Christmas Book Flood)?
Jólabókaflóð, the Christmas Book Flood, is the Icelandic tradition of giving books on Christmas Eve and spending the night reading them. It took shape during the Second World War, when imports were restricted but paper was not, so books became the gift of choice. Every autumn a free catalogue of new titles goes to every household, publishers release most of their year's books before Christmas, and Iceland remains one of the countries that publishes and reads the most books per person.
