What is World Arabic Language Day?
World Arabic Language Day on December 18 is celebrated by UNESCO, which established it in 2012. The date marks December 18, 1973, when the UN General Assembly made Arabic one of its official languages, alongside English, French, Russian, Chinese and Spanish. Arabic is spoken by more than 400 million people, is the language of the Quran, and carries fourteen centuries of poetry, philosophy, science and calligraphy.
