What is World Day for African and Afrodescendant Culture?
The World Day for African and Afrodescendant Culture on January 24 was proclaimed by UNESCO in 2019. The date marks the adoption in 2006 of the African Union's Charter for African Cultural Renaissance, which promotes African cultures as a source of identity, development and unity. The day celebrates the music, languages, art, literature and traditions of Africa and of the African diaspora around the world, and the role of culture in sustainable development.
