What is 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence?
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence run each year from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day. The campaign was launched in 1991 by activists at the Center for Women's Global Leadership and is now backed by the UN through its UNiTE campaign, which turns landmarks orange. About one in three women worldwide experiences physical or sexual violence in her lifetime, and the campaign calls for prevention, support for survivors and accountability.
