When is Christmas?

Every year on December 25.

What is Christmas?

Ukraine celebrates Christmas on December 25 after a 2023 law moved the national holiday from January 7, following the Orthodox Church of Ukraine's switch to the Revised Julian calendar. The change was seen as a step away from Russian church tradition and towards Europe, while some families still also keep the old date. Ukrainians mark Holy Supper on Christmas Eve with twelve meatless dishes, beginning with kutia, display a didukh sheaf of wheat, and go carolling with koliadky.
