When is Seeing-Eye Guide Dog Anniversary?

Every year on January 29.

What is Seeing-Eye Guide Dog Anniversary?

Seeing Eye Guide Dog Anniversary on January 29 marks the founding of The Seeing Eye in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1929, the oldest guide dog school still working in the United States. It was started by Dorothy Harrison Eustis, who had written about guide dogs being trained in Switzerland, and Morris Frank, a young blind man who travelled there to train with his German shepherd, Buddy. The day honours guide dogs, their handlers and the trainers, puppy raisers and donors behind every team, and is a reminder that guide dogs at work should not be petted or distracted.
