Rizal Day
Remember the hero, honor the legacy.

When is Rizal Day?
Every year on December 30.
What is Rizal Day?
Rizal Day on December 30 is a national holiday in the Philippines honouring José Rizal, the writer, doctor and reformer executed by the Spanish colonial authorities in Manila on that date in 1896. His novels Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo exposed abuses under Spanish rule and inspired the independence movement, and his execution fuelled the revolution that had begun that year. Filipinos mark the day with wreath-laying at the Rizal Monument in Luneta Park, where he was shot, and with flags at half-mast.
