National Heroes and Heroines Day
The island remembers.
When is National Heroes and Heroines Day?
Every year on December 19.
What is National Heroes and Heroines Day?
National Heroes and Heroines Day on December 19 is a public holiday in Anguilla, a small British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. It honours the people who shaped the island's history, especially the leaders of the Anguilla Revolution of 1967, when islanders rejected rule from neighbouring St Kitts and eventually won a separate status under Britain. Ceremonies, school assemblies and community events recall their courage and the island's long road to self-government.
