National Bird Day
Look up. Learn a bird's name.

When is National Bird Day?
Every year on January 5.
What is National Bird Day?
National Bird Day on January 5 is a US observance that celebrates birds and draws attention to the threats they face. Habitat loss, pesticides, collisions with windows and climate change have contributed to a decline of about three billion birds in North America since 1970, according to a 2019 study. The day also raises concerns about the trade in wild-caught parrots and other pet birds, and coincides with the Christmas Bird Count, a citizen-science survey begun in 1900.
