Today
Krampusnacht

When is Krampusnacht?

Every year on December 5.

What is Krampusnacht?

Krampusnacht, on the night of December 5, is an Alpine tradition from Austria, Bavaria and nearby regions. Krampus is a horned, furry figure from folklore who accompanies Saint Nicholas: while Nicholas rewards good children with sweets, Krampus rattles chains and bells to scare the naughty ones. In many towns young men dress in elaborate hand-carved masks and costumes for Krampus runs, noisy parades through the streets.
