World Tsunami Awareness Day
Sendai Seven: Reducing Disaster Risk.

When is World Tsunami Awareness Day?
Every year on November 5.
What is World Tsunami Awareness Day?
World Tsunami Awareness Day on November 5 was designated by the UN General Assembly in 2015 at Japan's proposal. The date recalls the Japanese story of Inamura-no-hi, in which a villager set fire to his rice sheaves in 1854 to lead his neighbours to high ground before a tsunami struck. The day promotes early warning systems, evacuation drills and the simple rule that a strong earthquake near the coast means moving inland at once.
