National High Heel Day
Step into the story you want to tell.

When is National High Heel Day?
Every year on May 20.
What is National High Heel Day?
National High Heel Day, observed on May 20, is the annual celebration of one of fashion's most polarizing silhouettes — a shoe that is, depending on who's wearing it, design, engineering, attitude or a tiny bit of theater wrapped into something that fits in a box. Founded in 2021 by Supreme Court mediator Kimberly Lorenz with Judge Gisela Laurent, the day treats high heels as more than a fashion accessory: a cultural artifact with centuries of history (Persian horsemen, Louis XIV's red-heeled court, Dior's steel-shanked stilettos) and a deeply personal relationship to confidence, identity and self-expression. The day's tone is celebratory rather than prescriptive — wear them, photograph them, design around them, support the small designers making them, but also know that appreciating heels doesn't require owning a pair.
