Skin Cancer Awareness Month
Cover up. Check your skin. Catch it early.

When is Skin Cancer Awareness Month?
From May 1 to May 31.
What is Skin Cancer Awareness Month?
Skin Cancer Awareness Month, observed every May in the United States, is the annual push to lower the country's skin cancer burden — the most common cancer in America, with more than 5 million new cases diagnosed each year — through prevention, early detection and public education. Coordinated by the Skin Cancer Foundation, the American Academy of Dermatology, the CDC and the American Association for Cancer Research, the month gives doctors, schools and community groups a shared moment to teach the basics: seek shade, cover up, skip indoor tanning, wear UV-blocking sunglasses, and use broad-spectrum SPF 15+ sunscreen on any skin that sees the sun. It also surfaces the stark numbers — 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70; five or more sunburns doubles melanoma risk — so the habit changes feel personal, not theoretical.
