International Day of Sarajevo Roses
Remember. Resist. Bloom.

When is International Day of Sarajevo Roses?
Every year on April 6.
What is International Day of Sarajevo Roses?
The International Day of Sarajevo Roses, observed each April 6, honours the lives lost during the Siege of Sarajevo and the resilience of the people who turned the scars of the Bosnian War into permanent memorials. The 'roses' are mortar-shell craters scattered across the city, filled after the war with red resin so each one blooms from the asphalt like a flower of remembrance, marking a place where someone died. April 6 marks the beginning of the siege in 1992, the longest siege of a capital city in modern warfare. The day exists to remember the dead, support survivors, and turn local memory into global reflection — through walking tours, art exhibitions, rose-planting events, documentary screenings and quiet conversations that keep Sarajevo's story alive in cities far from Bosnia.
