Genocide Prevention Day
Remember. Learn. Prevent.

When is Genocide Prevention Day?
Every year on December 9.
What is Genocide Prevention Day?
The International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime is observed on December 9. It was established by the UN General Assembly in 2015 and marks the adoption on that date in 1948 of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The day honours the victims of past genocides and calls for education, early warning and action to prevent new ones.
