Wright Brothers Day on December 17 marks the anniversary of the Wright brothers' first successful powered flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in 1903. The 12-second, 120-foot hop aboard the Wright Flyer launched the age of aviation. The day has been an official US observance since 1959.
