What is Rakia and Spirits Festival?
The Rakia and Spirits Festival is held in Sofia, Bulgaria, in early December and celebrates rakia, the fruit brandy that is a national drink across much of the Balkans. Rakia is distilled from grapes, plums, apricots and other fruit, and many families still make their own in the autumn. The festival brings together distillers and visitors for tastings, competitions and talks on traditional production.
