Play Basketball Day
Shoot hoops. Smile big.
When is Play Basketball Day?
Every year on December 2.
What is Play Basketball Day?
Play Basketball Day on December 2 celebrates the simple pleasure of picking up a ball and shooting a few hoops. The game was invented in 1891 by James Naismith, a physical education teacher in Springfield, Massachusetts, using two peach baskets as goals. People mark the day with pickup games at the local court, shooting contests and a game with friends or family.
