World Telecommunication and Information Society Day
Connect the world. Bridge the divide.

When is World Telecommunication and Information Society Day?
Every year on May 17.
What is World Telecommunication and Information Society Day?
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, observed on May 17 each year, marks the 1865 founding of the International Telegraph Union — the ancestor of today's International Telecommunication Union and the world's oldest intergovernmental organization still in operation. The day celebrates the technologies that let people talk across distances, from the electric telegraph to the World Wide Web, and the people — researchers, engineers, standards-setters, advocates — who keep those networks open, safe and useful. Each year carries a fresh theme, from broadband for sustainable development to digital inclusion, and the ITU uses the day to publish reports, host online events and push for policies that bring the next billion people online.
