National Maritime Day
Fair winds to those who keep the seas moving.

When is National Maritime Day?
Every year on May 22.
What is National Maritime Day?
National Maritime Day on May 22 honours the merchant mariners who carry America's trade and, in wartime, its troops and supplies. The date recalls the SS Savannah, which set out from Savannah, Georgia, on May 22, 1819, on the first transatlantic voyage made partly under steam power. Congress created the day in 1933, and ports and ships mark it with wreath-laying ceremonies and by sounding their whistles.
