International Everest Day

When is International Everest Day?

Every year on May 29.

What is International Everest Day?

International Everest Day on May 29 marks the first confirmed summit of Mount Everest, reached by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on 29 May 1953. Nepal founded the observance in 2008 to honour Sir Edmund after his death. It celebrates the mountain, the Sherpa communities who live on its slopes, and everyone who climbs it.
