What is Vesak Day (Buddha Day)?
Vesak Day, also known as Buddha Day, honors the birth, enlightenment, and passing into Nirvana of Siddhartha Gautama. Observed on the full moon of the Vaisakha lunar month — usually in May — it is the most sacred day in the Buddhist calendar. Millions mark it with meditation, temple visits, lantern releases, and acts of compassion. The UN officially recognized it as an international day in 1999.
