What is Thanksgiving Day (USA)?
Thanksgiving in the United States falls on the fourth Thursday of November and traces its story to a harvest feast shared by English colonists and the Wampanoag people at Plymouth in 1621. President Abraham Lincoln made it a national holiday in 1863, in the middle of the Civil War, and in 1941 Congress fixed it on the fourth Thursday. Families gather for roast turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie, watch parades and football, and take a moment to say what they are grateful for.
