St. Urho's Day
Heinäsirkka, mene sinä hiiteen!

When is St. Urho's Day?
Every year on March 16.
What is St. Urho's Day?
St. Urho's Day, observed every March 16, is a tongue-in-cheek Finnish-American holiday celebrating a fictional saint who, according to legend, chased grasshoppers out of Finnish vineyards by shouting 'Heinäsirkka, heinäsirkka, mene sinä hiiteen!' The day, said to have originated in the 1950s–70s among communities in Virginia, MN, is observed by drinking grape juice, wearing purple and green, and shouting the famous phrase.
