What is Social Justice Sunday?

Social Justice Sunday is observed across Australia, anchored in a tradition begun by Australian Catholic bishops in 1940 to address pressing social, economic, and ecological concerns. Each year the bishops release a statement focusing on a different theme — poverty, inequality, environmental care — calling on the Catholic community and beyond to reflect, act, and engage. The day invites personal action plans, community panels, food drives, letter-writing to representatives, social-justice movie nights, and volunteering to make solidarity and compassionate action feel tangible.
