What is Simchat Torah?
Simchat Torah celebrates the completion of the annual cycle of Torah readings and the immediate beginning of the new cycle. Observed on the 22nd of Tishrei (the day after Sukkot's final day), synagogues unroll the entire Torah scroll and congregants dance and sing with the scrolls through the night. In Israel it coincides with Shemini Atzeret.
