What is Regaib Kandili?
Regaib Kandili is observed on the night before the first Friday of Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar, and opens the three holy months that lead to Ramadan. In Türkiye it is one of the five kandil nights, named after the lamps that were lit on minarets in Ottoman times. Families visit mosques, pray and read the Quran, exchange good wishes and share kandil simidi, a small sesame bread made for these nights.
