What is Pushkar Camel Fair?
The Pushkar Camel Fair is held each autumn in the desert town of Pushkar in Rajasthan, India, during the Hindu month of Kartik. Herders bring thousands of camels, horses and cattle to trade on the sand dunes, and the fair has grown to include camel races, moustache and turban-tying contests, folk music and dance. It ends at the full moon of Kartik Purnima, when pilgrims bathe in the sacred Pushkar Lake beside the town's rare temple to Brahma.
